County Walks for 2010

We are a growing group of walkers who enjoy meeting up to explore the Sussex countryside each month. Many of the walks are planned by the walkers. All are chosen at the annual programme planning meeting in October. We are always looking for new members. The walks are not too strenuous. You will need to bring a lined rucksack with your lunch, drink, waterproofs & spare clothing. This varies according to the time of year. Walking boots or shoes with a good tread are essential. Uniform is not worn.

If you would like help with taking your unit out, please let me know. I have several County maps & compasses which can be borrowed as well as orienteering kites, clips, biscuits & control cards. My Division has an outdoor crate which can also be borrowed, although preference will be given to units in Adur Valley. It is packed with things to do with your unit & I recommend borrowing it prior to your meeting date so that you can plan what you are going to do. If you would like to know what is in it, just send me an email. There are several letterboxes scattered around the County that I can let you have the details for as well as the Adur Shell Trail which I have put up in my own Division. If you would like any letterboxes put up in your area, please let me know.

The Club is open to adults 18+. Any Scouts and Guides (aged 14+) are especially welcome to take part in our trips, as are Leaders wanting to gain experience so that they may go on to lead their own expeditions in wild country.

Informal monthly meetings are held at The Coach & Horses Inn, A27, near Worthing on Thursday evenings at 9:15pm - the dates are shown in the Club booklet. Alternatively, visit our web site on www.highdownhmc.org.uk

Our monthly programme offers opportunities to visit areas of varying terrain and scenery, as well as experiencing camping, centre-based, and backpacking trips. It is not an elitist Club, but aims to provide a variety of opportunities for all levels of ability and experience.
