5th Pagham and Aldwick and 3rd Felpham Brownies Holiday

West District Walk the London Bridges

What a surprise for 5th Pagham & Aldwick Brownies at their sleepover in Rustington on 24 February as Princess Ann arrived in her car ready to fly off in her helicopter which had landed on the field outside the Guide Hall.

The Brownies joined the other well wishers waving to the Princess who waved back to them.

West District Mystery Tour 2011

61 Rainbows, Brownies and Guides, 12 Leaders and 1 Young Leader set off from Bognor Regis Railway Station to start a mystery adventure for the day.  Only those who organised it knew where we were off to and kept it a secret from all the girls

Our first stop was Portsmouth Harbour where we went up the Spinnaker Tower.  What a surprise we had there when we found out that there was a special event going on and we could speak to some astronauts.  Lots of Guides and Brownies took this opportunity to find out more about going up into space.  After a fun time walking on the glass floor and seeing right down to the bottom, looking out of the Crow's Nest and seeing the boats in the harbour, we went and sat outside to eat some doughnuts.  We then had a quick walk around the millennium trail following the special route before going back to the station to set off for Havant.

Off the train and all onto a double decker bus to go to Staunton Country Park to feed the animals, play in the park and go around the maze and gardens.  What a lovely time we had.  Before leaving we all had a welcomed ice cream.

Back on the train to Bognor to end our day and to get a special badge.  We all had a really lovely day and are looking forward to next year's Mystery Tour!

5th Pagham & Aldwick and 3rd Felpham Brownies Holiday

5th Pagham & Aldwick Brownies once again join up with 3rd Felpham Brownies for an exciting two nights away at Pauline’s Lodge, Itchen.

What a fabulous time we had being Native Americans, making totem poles, tepees, bead necklaces, following tracks and making edible fires.  The girls had lots of challenges to get through so they started on that straight after dinner on our first evening.  They also had the opportunity to try abseiling and archery which many of them hadn’t done before, all the instructors made them all laugh.  They all thought this was great.

A lovely walk down to the River Hamble on a hot Sunday morning was wonderful, we walked through the woods and down to the jetty where we made friends with two lovely dogs who were having a swim.   There were people crabbing so we talked to them as well and they let the brownies pick up the crabs.   Back up through the woods to the picnic area where we had lunch and played at the play park.  Now it was nearly time to go so we set off back to the hall for prizes, certificates and badges, all were eager to know which tribe had the most points.

Last of all Snowy asked everyone who wanted to go on Brownie Holiday again – wow what a response – look out Pauline’s Lodge we may be back next year.

West District take part in LASER Walk the London Bridges

35 Brownies, Guides, Rangers and Leaders set off bright and early on Saturday 9th July to take part in the LASER walking the London Bridges.  For some of the Brownies it was their first time in London so it was very exciting for them.

We had eight bridges to walk and many sights to see on our way.  Our route was – Tower, London, Southwark, Millennium, Blackfriars, Waterloo, Jubilee and Westminster bridges, collecting a sticker at each bridge to show we had been there.

The Rangers and Froggie set off at a brisker rate than the rest of us as they wanted to have their BP Awards given to them on Tower Bridge.  Luckily for us we had Penny with us who knew her way around London and was able to point out so many of the interesting sights to the Brownies and Guides and tell them some of the history of the places we could see.

We decided to split our day doing 4 bridges before lunch and 4 after, this was nearly impossible as everyone was starving!!  One of the Guides, Kate, also made her promise, which she will always remember on Millennium Bridge.

As we walked around I think we said hello to so many other Brownies/Guides/Rangers and Leaders as there were over 4,200 of us taking part in this special walk.  We were lucky enough to see other Guide Leaders that we knew from West Sussex.

After bridge No 7 with one bridge left to do, we sat down for a well earned rest on the South Bank at Jubilee Gardens to watch the street entertainers, some of these are fascinating.  We met back up with our Rangers and picked up our medals and badges for the day.

Crossing Westminster Bridge which was our last one before making our way back to Victoria Station and stopping at McDonalds and our journey home.
