Linking Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award and Queen's Guide

With the launch of both the new D of E Award programme and the new Queen’s Guide syllabus, it is now even easier to link the 2 awards and work for them concurrently.  However, you must plan them together form the start in the initial meeting with the Queen’s Guide mentor.

 

Gold D of E

Queen’s Guide

Start between 16th and 23rd birthday.

Start between 16 – 25 years.

12 months (minimum) to complete*

3 years to complete.

No limit on breaks.

Possible to have a break for up to 12 months.

Completion deadline is 25th birthday.

Completion deadline is 3 years from start date, or 26th birthday.

Service

12 months regular commitment.

Service in Guiding

60 hours practical service.

Attend a residential Guiding event.

Plan an event that involves the participation of at least 2 units.

Expedition

Plan, prepare for and undertake a 4 day/3 night expedition or exploration in wild country.   (You need to undertake at least one full practice camp where training could be completed).

Outdoor Challenge

Complete the first 6 modules of the Senior Section Permit or the Camp and Holiday Scheme, if not already completed.   

Participate in a 4 day/3 night exploration or expedition.

Skills

Optional 12 or 6 months learning or improving a chosen skill.

Skill Development

A minimum of 12 months developing a new or existing skill which can include sporting skills.

Physical Recreation

Optional 12 or 6 months of regular commitment to any form of physical recreation.

 

 

Community Action

Over 12 months undertake 2 projects – one practical and one research.

Residential Project

Undertake a shared activity away from home for 5 days/4 nights.   (This could be 2 weekends, and not with more than 2 people known to you).

Residential Experience

Participate in a residential experience lasting no less than 3 days, where the majority of the participants are unknown to you.

 *Direct entrants (who have not completed their Silver Award) also need to complete an additional 6 months on either of the 2 sections already followed for 12 months i.e. 18 months minimum completion time.
