Changing the World!

What are you doing to change the world?

PLAN UK

At Plan we are delighted to be partnering with Girlguiding UK to change the world for girls.

We thought it would be nice to introduce ourselves and give you a bit more information about us and our Changing the World project.  Including some links that leaders, units and girls might find useful.  Please feel free to forward this email and these links.

Plan is an international charity and we work to improve the lives of children in 49 of the world's poorest countries.  You can find out more about us here - www.plan-uk.org <http://www.plan-uk.org/

Our Changing the World activity resources will help girls in the UK learn about what it's like to be a girl growing up in a poor country - and then come together to help change things.  Girls will be encouraged to express their thoughts on the subject through photography and other artwork and to display their work on an online gallery, at local exhibitions, and a big national exhibition in London during half-term week, October 2009.  It is hoped we will not only raise enough money to build a school for girls in Liberia, West Africa (one of the prizes at the national exhibition will be a visit to see what's been achieved) but also by gathering pledges and support for the 'Because I am a Girl'

campaign.  We have a recently released a two minute video that might be useful to share with older girls - it can be found at www.plan-uk.org/changingtheworld/

If units would like a local speaker from Plan to talk about Plan or our 'Because I am a Girl' campaign then we have a network volunteers across the UK - you can request a speaker by emailing - changingtheworld@plan-international.org

Likewise, if leaders would like collateral such as badges, leaflets, posters or balloons, please encourage them to get in touch with us.

We'd be happy to help.

Good wishes and good luck with your endeavours.

RED CROSS

Hello ladies

I have just attended the annual gathering of British Red Cross (Sussex) and
would like to pass on to you how keen they are to work with us on the
Changing the World Project.  It appears that the Red Cross no longer has a
youth section so they are keen to pass on their skills to our young people
and raise awareness of the role of their organisation.  They certainly
appear to be very active in Sussex and were keen to know where our centenary
camp was to be held as some of them had attended the Scout World Camp in
Essex!

If you are able to pass this information on to your Guiders I would be
grateful.

Regards
Jackie Brown
