Brownies Go for a Guinness World Record
Children from 3rd Felpham Brownies, Felpham, Bognor Regis, sleeped for charity and a Guinness World Record in the BT Giant Sleepover, the world’s biggest simultaneous sleepover! The Brownies joined thousands sleeping over around the world on 16/17th June for charities including ChildLine.
Kay, from 3rd
Felpham Brownies, said: “We really enjoyed breaking a World Record! It is a fun
way for the children to spend time with friends at the same time as so many
others around the world and we were lucky enough to be sponsored by Mike Grove,
owner of Dominos of Chichester, who kindly donated pizzas for the Brownies”
To break the world record for the largest simultaneous sleepover (previously held by 33,093 participants in the 2006 BT Giant Sleepover) the children had to have their lights out for at least 5 hours and not sleep in their beds! Over 40,000 children took part in 2000 sleepovers in their schools and youth groups across the UK.
During the BT Giant Sleepover, the children participated in organized events and activities for fun, friendship and fundraising. It was a wonderful way to raise funds for children’s charities and local causes”.
This year saw a “Green Theme” when the kids also looked at cutting carbon. A carbon calculator has been launched on www.btgiantsleepover.com in preparation for each child to evaluate their total carbon emissions.
